- Do you have a wheat belly? A food allergy, or hypersensitivity, is an abnormal response to a food protein that is triggered by the immune system. The immune system is not responsible for the symptoms of a food intolerance, even though these symptoms can resemble those of a food allergy. The protein in food is the most allergic part and the immune system thinks that this food is harmful and a cascade of events occur causing food allergy symptoms. For example, being allergic to milk (casein allergy) is different from not being able to digest it properly due to lactose intolerance (due to lacking the lactase, the enzyme need to break down lactose). The most common food allergies are: gluten, casein, egg, corn, soy, citrus, and peanuts. There are two types of food allergies: Anaphylactic or immediate (symptoms would be hives, asthma, distress, difficulty breathing) and Masked or “hidden”.
- My approach is to find what each person needs. Cleansing and detox regimes can be very different for different people. In general though, a cleanse would reduce any possible inflammatory foods, or food allergens, along with natural remedies to facilitate that part of the body you are working on. A full body cleanse would incorporate proper intake of cleansing foods while detoxifying the liver, kidneys, colon, skin, and lungs. From a foundational level dietary changes, hypoallergenic diet, and specific functional foods, greens, liver specific herbs and homeopathics to improve overall health.Cleansing helps eliminate toxins and reduce the burden on the digestive system.
- Support the Adrenals.Adrenal Fatigue occurs when your adrenal glands become “tired”, usually as the result of chronic stress, pain, or severe illness. When the adrenal glands become tired they no longer secrete enough hormones, especially cortisol to deal and cope with daily life and stressors. In my opinion, adrenal fatigue is one of the most common health issues affecting society today. Think about it. Chronic stress of all kinds affect our hormones and unless we support and supplement our adrenals, we are likely to have less and less energy.
Support the Liver. Have you cleansed your liver lately? Your liver is the most important organ controlling detoxification in the body. It’s your factory for processing all chemicals, foods, toxins, everything you ingest, breathe, or put on your skin. It processes and metabolizes about 40 % of the toxins in your body and breaks them down in compounds which then hopefully will be excreted by your colon and your kidneys.
Support the Gallbladder. Increased levels of cholesterol in the bile, decreased production of bile salts, or spasm of the gall bladder sphincter not allowing the bile to drain out of gallbladder; estrogen, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, rapid weight loss, low fiber and high fat diet, extremely low fat diets as well, cholesterol drugs, pregnancy can all exhaust the Gallbladder.
- Did you know the main organs of detoxification? Liver and kidneys are the do most of the work, but also the colon, lungs, and skin all are detoxifying organs of the body. Any deficiency in one area can make the other areas of the body work harder. It’s important that we understand fundamentally that the body is trying to cleanse on a daily basis. That is what it does, so it is just common sense that we want to make sure that this process works well and we continue to support it as needed.
Detoxification is an alternative medicine approach to health that claims that periodic cleansing or detoxification of “toxins” that accumulate over time, helps reduce any undesirable effects on an individual’s health. Still to many in conventional medicine this still appears to be controversial.
Even though Hippocrates, the founder of western medicine believed in cleansing philosophy, today many doctors do not understand the value and great importance of science based detoxification. I look at it very simply and with a common sense approach. Take for example what you do for your CARS. You get them regularly serviced, maintained and you clean out the oil periodically. Otherwise it does not function as well. How are your bodies any different?? Can you expect to go 50 years and live symptom free if you do not heed the principles of cleansing?? I don’t think that is possible. Our bodies, minds, and spirits need regular attention to cleansing.
Cleansing is a broad term and there are a million ways to cleanse. There are many different types of “detox diets” as well as many different types of “detox cleanses”. What’s important here is pinpointing any potential toxins and seeking to eliminate them or rid them from the system. So on a physical level, these may be chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, hormones. They also could be made within namely yeast overgrowth.
On another level toxins can be emotional. Old trauma, old grief and sadness, old anger. Anything emotionally that could be affecting you today that no longer serves you. These are a kind of toxin on the emotional level which can then affect the body. The mental toxins- do you have habits, thoughts that tend to reoccur and you no longer wish to have them? Sometimes we have to do a mental detox to clear the mind and establish new thoughts, new neurons and therefore a new way of being in the world.
